Have you ever had those days - or even moments - where if you could pause time and look at it from outside the situation, you'd wonder, "am I really doing this right now?"
The Promised Land cast had a rehearsal yesterday. We reviewed several dance numbers and tweaked a few things as needed to make them more solid. We were having waffles and doughnuts during breaks to celebrate the baptism of one of the cast members into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The food was delicious, but I have to admit, no one should eat that much waffle and syrup between dance numbers!!
The Director excused the women about an hour early so they could go through a new number with the men. I hadn't planned anything particularly pressing during that time because I had expected to be there anyway - so, I decided to stay and watch the choreography take shape. It is a fantastic song with a somewhat light-hearted feel to it. If you don't have the opportunity to see this musical in August, you are really going to be missing out!! I'll just say that there's nothing quite like seeing grown men riding on one another's backs like camels... in side-saddle position, nonetheless; or watching them manipulate one another like puppets. It's fantastic entertainment!
Later that same day, several of us went to the closing night of Mikado to support some of our cast members, after which we went Disco skating at a local roller skating rink. One of our cast spent several of his younger years ice skating, so he could bust some really fun moves on the floor.
I didn't have anything really Disco-ish to wear, but came up with a last minute get up. I found some material I had from my grandmother that was bright and bold from which I tore off a strip for a head band and used the rest to create a make-shift wrap-around halter dress. It was probably a most hideous outfit, but it worked well enough on this occasion to get me $2 off admission! It's amazing what you're willing to wear when it saves you money and you know you'll have a few good friends around to back you up. I'll have to post some photos when I get them from my friend.
